Jitterbug and Pure Merino Cozy Garter Stitch Hat
Head width: 20
Head depth: 8 + 3” brim
Materials: 1 ball Berroco Pure Merino, 1 ball Colinette Jitterbug
Gauge: 4.5 stitches and 7 rows = 1” in garter stitch using jitterbug doubled
Needle size: US 8 or size needed to obtain gauge
Pattern note: Jitterbug will be held doubled throughout top section of hat
Using size 8 needles and pure merino cast on 90 stitches. Work in garter stitch for 3.5”. Change to jitterbug and continue in garter stitch until piece measures 10”.
Begin decreases as follows:
Row 1: Knit 7, K2tog Repeat to end
Row 2 and all other Wrong Side (even) rows: Knit
Row 3: Knit 6, K2tog Repeat to end
Row 5: Knit 5, K2tog Repeat to end
Row 7: Knit 4, K2tog Repeat to end
Row 9: Knit 3, K2tog Repeat to end
Row 11: Knit 2, K2tog Repeat to end
Row 12: K2tog Repeat to end
Row 13: K2tog Repeat to end
Cut the yarn, leaving a 12” tail. Thread the yarn onto a tapestry needle and pull it through the remaining stitches once. Sew the hat together.
